Kaleidoscope (2019)

This funny, single-channel, 2D flat animation Kaleidoscope, created by Wei Zhang, envisions a future utopian/dystopian world where concepts of hybridity, the body, and queerness are rethought. The animation delves into the intertwined relationship between queer bodies and post-human bodies through Zhang’s Sci-Fi visual narrative. As gene-editing, gene-modification, and organ transplants advance, the human body will undergo remarkable enhancements and evolution, transcending its current form. Organs will no longer function as we imagine, and race, sex, genders, and sexualities will cease to exist. Furthermore, the human body’s efficiency will surpass that of AI and machines, gradually leading to the obsolescence of cyber technologies and machinery.
